Too crude for your car!
We take a look at the list of 334 banned number plates by the DVLA for the 2024 new registration release date in March.
Twice a year on the 1st March & 1st September, the UK number plates change to the latest issue. On March 1st the ‘24’ plates are released and anyone taking delivery of a new vehicle from this date will have a 24 plate issued. When looking at a personalised number plate, the number 24 can represent the letters RA. This is down to the official UK number plate font Charles Wright where the number 2 can look similar to the letter ’R’ and the 4 looking similar to the letter ‘A’. A great example of this is the plate 'ST24NDS' this would make a nice plate for ‘STRANDS’ and could be perfect if you owned a hair salon called Strands!
One that we know has made the list of 334 banned plates was 'ST24PON' which could look like STRAP-ON this could have been quiet the marketing piece for an adult entertainment store!
These may seem a like a joke to many, but the DVLA must take this very seriously and meet twice a year at their head offices in Swansea to discuss theses potentially rude, offensive, racial, political and religious sensitive plates that might be coming out at the next numberplate release in order to deem some 'too rude for the road'. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall at that meeting!
We have plenty of customers who enjoy seeing the cheeky and rude plates so we can see why some are disappointed to see such a long list of banned plates, 334 in total! Some that have made the chop this year include: BO24 LOX, AS24 OLE, SL24 GGS, CO24 ONA and SH24 GER'
In the past some have slipped the net and remained in circulation, which could be considered a good thing to some! One plate in particular, SHA 993R has stood the test of time and is actually available to buy from us at the moment!
